In the book of Ruth, we see a shining light of marriage and redemption in the midst of a wicked and ungodly culture that only sought to do what was right in man’s own eyes. Elimelech made a very poor decision to leave the people of God and the house of bread for the perceived safety and convenience in the land of their enemy, the Moabites. Elimelech dies and Naomi his wife is left as widow, having also lost her two sons. Here we see the peril, sorrow, misery, and death that will always be the result when we forsake the people of God, the land of God, and house of bread for our own sinful pursuits.
