As Paul writes Romans 10, he is not offering eternal salvation to the sinner on behalf of Jesus. Instead, we see from the rightly dividing of this scripture, those who are called upon to believe in and confess Christ, are already born again – already have a zeal of God, already have the word of faith in their heart and mouth. Unfortunately though, those born again children of God placed their hope of salvation in their works instead of Jesus Christ. Paul prayed for those ignorant children of God to come to the knowledge of the truth, confess Jesus Christ, and to be liberated from the bondage of a works salvation and experience the joy and peace in believing in salvation by grace alone and by Christ alone.
