The pastor James warns his readers of the dangers of an uncontrolled tongue. The tongue can be a rampant fire, a deadly poison, and can cause much damage when we are not vigilant to bridle and control our tongues. However, we can also use our tongues to great benefit in the church, to edify and minister grace to our hearers. James reminds us of the necessity of bridling our tongue to build and up and promote life and not to tear down and cause misery.
